Darby Live Video Chat

In 2017, this fast-growing pre-Tik Tok video app was gaining traction with the DIY maker community. Our small and scrappy design & engineering teams collaborated in a prototyping process that enabled rapid feature launches.

With live videos drawing engagement, our team identified “live chat” as the next feature to turn viewers into users. Chats would appear in real time over a video, you could expand or hide group “convos”, and DM other individuals. We took this from whiteboard to production in ~24 hours, using mockups I designed as the key visuals and UI spec reference.
